I Corinthians

  1. 9:25  And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
  2. Proverbs

  3. 16:32  He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
  4. Romans

  5. 6:12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
  6. I Corinthians

  7. 12  All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
  8. 9:27  But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
  9. James

  10. 3:2  For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
  11. Galatians

  12. 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
  13. Matthew

  14. 4:1  Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
  15. 2  And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
  16. 3  And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
  17. 4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
  18. 5  Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
  19. 6  And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
  20. 7  Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
  21. 8  Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
  22. 9  And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
  23. 10  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
  24. 11  Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
  25. 26:63  But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
  26. Isaiah

  27. 53:7  He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
  28. Daniel

  29. 1:8  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
  30. I Timothy

  31. 2:9  In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
  32. 10  But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
  33. 11  Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
  34. 12  But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
  35. 13  For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
  36. 14  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
  37. 15  Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
  38. 3:1  This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
  39. 2  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
  40. 3  Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
  41. 4  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
  42. 5  (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
  43. 6  Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
  44. 7  Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
  45. 8  Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
  46. 9  Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
  47. 10  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
  48. 11  Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
  49. 12  Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
  50. 13  For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
